The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a mandatory one-year program for all Nigerian graduates under the age of 30. Before you register for NYSC, there are some important detail you should know about to ensure a smooth and successful experience.
Before I take you through the 3 important lists you need to know about, below are three basic things you should know as well that will be very useful as you proceed in your journey to your service year.
The first basic thing to consider is the list of requirements for registration. You must have a degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND) from an accredited institution, a statement of result or transcript, a valid identification card, and recent passport photographs (about 12 copies). You must also not have any criminal record and must be physically fit for the program.
The second basic thing to consider is the list of things to take to camp. These include your call-up letter, original and photocopies of your credentials, a medical certificate of fitness, 3 to 5 piesce round-necked white T-shirt, white shorts, white sneakers and socks, a waist pouch, a mosquito net, a bed sheet, a pillowcase, a bucket, and a cutlery set.
The third basic thing to consider is the list of things to expect during the program. You will undergo a 3-week orientation camp, where you will be trained in various skills, including entrepreneurship, cultural display and competion between different platoons leadership, and community development. You will also be posted to a primary assignment, which can be in any state of local government of your deployed state, to serve in schools, hospitals, government offices, and other organizations. You will receive a monthly allowance, and at the end of the scheme, you will be given a certificate of completion signifying that you’ve successfully completed the scheme.
The NYSC Senate List

ToggleThe NYSC senate list is the first list we are going to talk about. This list determines the eligibilty of Prospective Corp Members (PCMs) for their one year NYSC scheme. It contains the names of graduates from various accredited institutions across the country who meet the requirements for participation in the scheme.
This list is compied by the academic board of the institution. the senate confirms your eligibility for the mobilization and participation in the scheme. It serves as a confirmation tothe NYSC body that you are qualified to participate in the scheme. If you can’t find your name in this list, it means you are not yet qualified to participate when the nesxt registration begins.
How To Check Your Name in the NYSC Senate List
Follow this steps to check your name in the NYSC Senate List
- Visit the NYSC portal HERE
- Scroll down to Important Information
- Click on Check Senate list or it’s equivalet
- Select your institution
- Enter your surname
- Enter your date of birth as recorded in your school record and submit.
The NYSC Graduation List
Unlike the senate list, the graduation list confirms the completion of all the academic qualification of an individual candidate for a degree.
This list is a complete register of all students in an institution from a particualar department who graduated within a specific timeframe/interval. It includes the names of the graduating student, his/her course, gender and registration status.
It is important tonote that your name being on the NYSC graduation list, does not automatically qualify you going for NYSC service year. it simplymeans that you are a graduate from a particular institution.
How to Check your Name on the NYSC Graduation List
- Visit the NYSC portal HERE
- Scroll down to Important Information
- Click on View Graduation List
- Select your Batch i.e. A.2022
- Select your program i.e. HND/BSc.
- Select institution
- Select your course
- Click on Extract PCM
Thereafter, you can check your name on the list as the list could possibly contain the names of your coursemates and students you know from your department and school.
The JAMB Matriculation List
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has taken an impressive move towards higher education admissions more transperent. They’ve created a new portal whose aim is to assist Potential Corp Memebers (PCMs). This platform will ensure that their admissions are indeed recognised by JAMB thereby creating an easy access for them during their NYSC registration.
Why should you check your Name on the JAMB Matriculation List?
There are basically three reasons why you should check your name on the matriculation list. They include the following:
- First, verifying your name on the JAMB matriculation list is necessary for mobilisation in the NYSC. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) expects that every prospective corps member have the name on the JAMB matriculation list before they can be mobilised for the one-year national mandatory service.
- Secondly, verification of one’s name on the matriculation list is a confirmation individual’s admission is valid and by a recognized institution is and recognised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. Candidates who do not verify their names on the list risk having their admission revoked by JAMB. This is because JAMB is the only body authorised to offer and validate admissions into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
- Finally, verifying your name on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board matriculation list protects candidates from being scammed by fraudulent institutions. In recent years, there have been cases of fraudulent institutions offering fake admissions to unsuspecting candidates. How to check your name on the JAMB matriculation list
To verify their name on the the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board matriculation list, candidates are required to visit the body’s e-Facility website and follow the simple steps outlined there. You will simply be required to provide your JAMB registration number and year of examination. Onceyou do this, your name will be displayed if it’s on the list.
